Asking for and Receiving Guidance

I believe that we are at a time in our existence when we will need guidance from higher sources more than ever.  More of us are tapping into this, and this is fabulous.  If you're still reading this, then my hunch is that you are interested in this as well.

This week, try to start connecting with whatever higher source of wisdom you choose. That may be God, a spirit guide, a loved one who has passed over (and who also can help guide us). Begin to establish regular lines of communication. You can choose to talk out loud, but often just communicating through your silent thoughts allows you to exercise that part of your brain and open for this type of communication.

Begin by expressing gratitude for something in your life. This raises your frequency to a higher one aligned with the spirit realm. You may choose to move your hands in a prayer or bow or close your eyes, or whatever may feel comfortable to you. (I do this exercise every day). At first, you may feel like you're just talking to yourself, especially if you haven't done this much before.

You may choose then to ask for guidance related to a particular situation in your life. Here is an an example (if you wanted to talk to multiple sources at once): "I ask my spirit guides, God and angels to provide me with the assistance, love and wisdom for me in my approach to a difficult conversation I will be having with my relative/co-worker/loved one tomorrow." Or, you may choose to simply address a spirit guide you may know of by name. Or, an angel (like Archangel Michael or Archangel Uriel). Or simply God (which lies within all and within us). Or Jesus, Buddha, Saint Germain, Mother Mary, Swami Vivekananda or any of other many Ascended Masters!

And then listen for the first thing that pops into your head. It is a quiet, soft voice that at first you will think is just yours. But you will know that this voice is also a part of your higher self that is wise, compassionate, loving and gentle. You may not always get detailed answers, usually just short phrases. Sometimes that is all you are meant to receive. Notice how you feel afterward. Do you feel a sense of overwhelming comfort and love? Do you feel warmth and protection? Do you simply feel grateful for receiving? Then you are connecting.

You also can practice with an exercise I just created called Meeting Your Guides from a Higher Realm. Soon, you will begin to start to get to know a spirit guide, but you can also try to connect with any other higher being besides a spirit guide (like an angel, Ascended Master, etc) through any guided meditation like this one or simply on your own.

Start noticing any messages that you then may be receiving from a higher realm. It may come simply into your thoughts, or maybe a sign on the road, or a song you hear, or a symbol you notice, or something someone says to you. Synchronicity also starts to happen when you are aligned with the universe. You may be wondering, "am I just going to be reading a lot into things? Will I just be talking to myself?" Here's a story for you that is a very clear example of how this works, This LITERALLY just happened today and blew my mind (although I shouldn't be surprised anymore when these things happen):

We all went to LL Bean today (Sunday July 10) . My husband went to the register to buy Arran (our 4 year old) some sneakers as I followed Alice (our 15 month old) around the store. He was going to use an old $40 gift certificate for the sneakers. We knew the shoes cost about $38-39. As he is waiting, an LL Bean employee walks by him and says "It's your lucky day." She points to a penny on the ground. Chris picks up the penny. At the register, another employee tells him that the total for the sneakers is $42.15. It turned out that the gift card had $42.14 on it so he would need a penny. He handed her the penny he had just picked up. He looked around for the first employee who had walked by to thank her but she was gone.

Chris later told me that years ago someone asked him, "What would you wish for if you could have one wish?" And his response was "To always have exact change when I'm buying something at the register."

Was his wish granted (years later)? Was it a sign that he can wish for something much bigger and it will be granted? Was it an indication that he will be experiencing financial balance/abundance in his life? Was it synchronicity? I believe, yes, yes, yes and yes.

In my own life, I receive messages in many ways. Many times from signs along the road, or in a store (I get all KINDS of messages from Starbucks for some bizarre reason!) that I know are meant for me. Something catches my eye all of the sudden ("Share your Story on Facebook", "You On the Right Path", "We Love When our Favorites Get Together"). These are all real examples!

Other times it may be a song on the radio with words speaking to you ("You've Got to Hoooollllld On..." "Let It go, Let It Go") or on TV. I stopped doing my computer work one night when some "Bewitched" rerun Chris was watching suddenly seemed to be full volume in my ear speaking about messages from the soul or something. Sometimes it's also in events that happen that seem significant (glass breaking, an illness, a child's words may all be these Divine Sources trying to get your attention!).

Messages are EVERYWHERE and often we miss them. If you can start looking for them, and noticing them, and reflecting on how they might be beneficial in your life, you can begin transform your experience of your reality. You will know that the universal forces of love and benevolence are looking out for you at all times. Notice also how you FEEL. If you feel warm, good, light, or if you feel that something is meant for you, that's because it IS meant for you. TRUST YOURSELF. You're not just reading too much into something. Use these messages to help guide you in life!
