Elderberries have been used for centuries among ancient cultures for healing and mysticism. The health benefits of elderberry are widespread. It is believed to help boost the immune system, protect against bacteria/infection, reduce allergies and clears up sore throats magically!
In this workshop, kids will learn about the healing properties of the elderberry plant and its many medicinal uses. We will do a short guided meditation to connect with the plant, and drawing (and sharing as a group) of what it might look like as a family to integrate using the gifts of plants right in our backyard in Maine for daily use.
Sunday, April 29, 3:30-5 pm at the Friends School of Portland, 11 US Route One, Cumberland Foreside, Maine with Sarah Jorgensen and Rachel Horton White. $15/child (parents and children under 1 are free). Children and parents will observe how elderberry syrup* is made and help make their own syrup to take home! Glass bottles to take home your own syrup are provided, so please register here in advance . Limited to 10 children.
We ask that all children be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the experience of learning together as a family. This workshop is designed for children ages 4-8 years old, but younger and older siblings are welcome to join.
*Ingredients include: organic dried elderberries (sambucis nigra), ginger, clove, cinnamon, honey and rosehips. If your child has allergies, ingredients can be modified. Elderberries can be toxic if consumed raw, these will be thoroughly cooked! We are not trained herbalists, just moms who want to keep their kids healthy!
