For Kids: Healing with the White Pine: Make Your Own Magic Wand!

Here in Maine, we are lucky to live in a place so filled with trees. Did you know that many of these trees contain powerful energy and a life force that can heal in many ways?

We are experiencing a shift in consciousness in our world, and many of us long to reconnect with the Earth and its gifts. In this workshop, we will learn about the magic of the white pine, a tree found all over Maine and used for years by indigenous peoples for medicinal and healing purposes. We invite families to join us to learn more about how to reestablish an appreciation and understanding of the energies within nature and how we can tap into plants like the white pine for practical, everyday uses.

Together, we will learn from White Pine through touch, taste, smell and our curiosity! Local Herbalist, Mischa Schuler, of Wild Carrot Herbs will facilitate our exploration. Through our experience of drinking tea we'll discover how White Pine clears our lungs and can support repair of respiratory tissues. And while making our wands - winding thread around White Pine branches - we'll discover our wands may also support clearing and repairing of those things we want to heal.

We will also find a few moments for stillness and gratitude for the gifts from the Earth, guided by Rachel Horton White of Soulful Work Intuitive Consulting. We will write and share as families our intentions to integrate this connection with nature into our everyday lives.

Friday, January 19th, 5:30-6:30 pm at the Friends School of Portland, 11 US Route One, Cumberland Foreside, Maine. $7/child (parents and children under 2 are free). Children will sample some white pine tea and make their own white pine "magic" wand! Materials are provided, so please register in advance so we know how many people to expect.

We ask that all children be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the experience of learning together as a family. This workshop is designed for children ages 4-7 years old, but younger and older siblings are welcome to join.
